Macramé lantern instructions

Create a charming macramé lantern with this DIY project, bringing coziness into your home. Through skillfully knotting cords, a beautiful pattern emerges, creating a warm ambiance in candlelight. Follow these instructions to craft your own individual macramé lantern and create a unique decoration.

Material

Cutting 13 cords × 60 cm

Step 1

Attach a piece of yarn (guide string) to the glass using a simple double knot. Attention: string and knot should remain loose.

Step 2

Attach the remaining cords to the guide cord using the anchor knot. To do this, form a piece of cord into a loop and pass it around the guide cord from the front to the back.

Step 3

Then thread the cord ends through the loop. Pull tight!

Step 4

Form a total of six anchor knot pairs, leaving approx. 3 cm of guiding cord free between each pair. Now open the guiding cord again and knot it tightly around the glass.

Step 5

For the square knot, pass the right cord under the two middle cords to the left, and the left cord over the middle cords to the right. Tighten well!

Step 6

Then guide the left cord under the two middle cords to the right and the right cord over the middle cords to the left. Tighten firmly!

Repeat step 5.

Repeat step 5.

Repeat steps 5 to 8 with all anchor node pairs.

Step 10

Create another square knot approximately 2 cm below. Repeat step 5 for this.

Repeat step 6.

Tighten firmly! Form five additional offset square knots at the same height with the remaining cords.

Tie below it a second row of single square knots.

And subsequently a third row.

Step 15

Shorten the yarn ends slightly. Caution: Do not cut too short here yet.

Unravel the cord ends, carefully comb them out and make the final cut.
